I’m posting this message in the hopes that we can get a representative opinion on the users of this website.  Out of 1803 homes, we have less than 40 represented on the Community Forum.  Out of those, only about 10 are regular contributers.

Unfortunately, the abuse by spammers and advertisers is making the maintenance of the forum unmanageable.  I spent approximately one hour each day cleaning up fake accounts and posts.  I have tried countless ways to reduce the spam to little avail.  It’s just too easy to spam message boards these days.

I would like to remove the Community Forum from the website, and instead use the Comments section of the main website blog for feedback purposes.  I know the Forum is valuable to approximately ten people in the neighborhood who use it regularly, but I really can’t justify all the work put into it for such a small representation.

Please let me know what you think.

Thank you,
Jessica M. Green

This is an archive article from the Town of Gilbert, originally sent in July, 2004.

Arizona is entering its ninth year of a prolonged period of less than average precipitation.  In our desert environment, drought is a recurring event that historical data indicates can last for up to 30 years.  Much of Gilbert’s water supply is provided by the Salt River Project, and for the second consecutive year — only the second time in the past 52 years — SRP’s Board of Governors voted to maintain reduced water deliveries for calendar year 2004.

Living with drought should become a part of every resident’s lifestyle.  If we all assume responsibility for water conservation, we can help ensure adequate water supplies now and for the future.

It may seem a little early to discuss the overseeding of Bermuda lawns for the fall, but many communities are making these decisions now.  The attached article should help with the choice of overseeding with rye or not.
