This is an archived article from the Town of Gilbert, originally sent in March, 2005.
This time of year, many landscapes may need a bit of tidying up as spring begins to generate new growth. Pruning landscape plants is sometimes a source of confusion for many homeowners and association board members. They often ask when? how? or why?, and may not understand that plants may not ‘need’ to be pruned. Why does your water conservation office care about how plants are pruned? Because frequent or repeated pruning actually increases plant water needs in addition to impacting their overall health.
The attached article should help answer most questions on this topic.
