Some homeowners have been asking questions about the area surrounding the skate park. Brian Quillen has sent in the following information to address some of the homeowner concerns.
“The wall is going to be raised and the view fencing removed to help lessen the noise from the park. Also, I have been in touch with the manufacturer to see if there is any sort of insulation we can use or do to decrease the sound of the ramps. And as the trees mature behind these homes they will also help as a sound barrier.
“The posted hours on the all of the parks in San Tan Ranch are 5am until 10pm and all of the lighting should be scheduled to turn off at 10pm. If it is not doing so please contact the management company so we can contact the vendor to correct this issue. And as always if anyone has any questions or comments they can contact me at bquillen@wearevision.com.”

Are you interested in helping with fun events in our neighborhood? Do you have a good idea for an activity that everyone would enjoy?
The San Tan Ranch Social Committee is looking for volunteers and resident input. We would love a larger representation of the neighborhood be involved in our events! The time committment is low, at about an hour per month for planning and then a little more time as an event draws nearer. We also need volunteers to help at specific events. Volunteers can choose which events they wish to participate in, so the time involved is always in your control. We understand that our residents are very busy with family, work, and life!
Our next meeting is Tuesday, January 16th, 2007. We will be discussing our next two events, one of which is an Adult Dinner Evening in February. If you would like to join the committee or have an excellent idea for an activity, please email social@santanranch.org. We look forward to hearing from you!

Vision Community Management would like to inform all San Tan Ranch residents about the KidZone Program. If you would like to be involved in getting the program going in San Tan Ranch, please contact Brian Quillen (bquillen@wearevision.com) at (480) 759-4945.
The Town of Gilbert provides the following information on the KidZone website for your information:
As a policy, the Town of Gilbert does not install “Children at Play” signs in residential neighborhoods. There are several reasons for this policy:
There is no evidence that the sign slows traffic down or makes drivers more aware of children.
The sign is not recognized as an official sign by state and national standards.
The sign can promote a false sense of security to both children and parents.
Every neighborhood in Gilbert has children, so an absence of the sign would incorrectly imply that children do not live in the area.
Because of these reasons, the Town of Gilbert has developed the KidZone program aimed at increasing child safety in our neighborhoods.
Gilbert’s KidZone program is patterned after the neighborhood Block Watch program. The idea behind the program is to educate children and parents alike on child safety as it relates to traffic, fire safety, stranger danger, bicycles, etc.
A neighborhood achieves KidZone status by holding a meeting that is attended by at least 15 children and 15 adults. The meeting will be conducted by Town officials from the Police, Fire, and Traffic Engineering Departments.
Neighborhoods that hold a meeting will have up to three KidZone signs installed at the entrances to their sub-division. The signs are intended to remind drivers that child safety is important to this neighborhood and that the residents have taken steps to ensure the safety of their children.
In order to maintain KidZone status, neighborhoods must renew the program on a yearly basis. Failure to do so will result in removal of the signs.
It is important to remember that signs do not provide any type of physical protection for children. There is no substitute for proper supervision and education. It is up to all of us to protect our most valuable resource: our children.

The information in this post was provided by the City of Mesa Water Conservation department.
Happy New Year! Resolve to use less water this year by watering your landscape as efficiently as possible. Don’t be concerned if you see leaf yellowing or leaf drop which many plants experience this time of year in response to cold weather. Palo verdes, mesquites, elms, ash and Texas sage are just some of the plants that can be affected. The watering guidelines suggested below will keep plants healthy and well hydrated. Recommendations below are for plants that are established in the landscape (in the ground about 2 years).
Lawn watering:
Summer grass (Bermuda) - once every 30 days
Overseeded cool season grass (rye) – once every 10-14 days
If trees and shrubs are on the same valve:
Desert Adapted - once every 35 days
High Water Use - once every 18 days
Tree watering:
Desert Adapted - once every 45 days
High Water Use - once every 21 days
Shrub watering:
Desert Adapted - once every 30 days
High Water Use - once every 14 days
Groundcover and vine watering:
Desert Adapted - once every 28 days
High Water Use - once every 14 days
Cacti and succulent watering – if needed
Annuals watering - once every 10 days
Wildflower watering – once every 15 days
**Reduce your landscape watering 30 to 50 percent by adjusting your irrigation each season.** “Landscape Watering by the Numbers: A Guide for the Arizona Desert” will help you determine how much water to apply and how long to run your system. Visit the interactive Web site or request a free copy of the booklet at http://www.wateruseitwisely.com
Bonus tip: Make your New Year’s resolution to save water today. Water - Use it Wisely is now offering an interactive and fun home water audit. To get started, visit http://www.wateruseitwisely.com.
Note: These recommendations are a general guideline only and may need to be modified for your specific site conditions.

This is an archived article from the Town of Gilbert, originally sent out in January, 2005.
Ever wonder why there are purple irrigation valve box covers in many landscaped common areas throughout Gilbert? The color purple indicates that the water in the lines is reclaimed water, or treated wastewater that is recycled and used again for landscapes and other uses. It is one of the most significant water conservation tools because it reduces demands on our precious groundwater resources.
The attached article will help answer many questions about this water source including what it can and can’t be used for, health concerns, and why some communities in Gilbert have reservoirs.
